We have decided to home school. It was the original plan when we adopted the girls, but I let doubt and the devil stand between the kind of education we wanted for the girls. I was not sure I could teach them everything they needed to know. After two weeks in the public school, the bus ride that took an hour, the older kids and their cussing on the bus and the overall change seen in the girls after two weeks I got my confidence back and knew we had to do something. I could also see that I was fighting what the Lord was leading us to do a Christian education. The girls are so excited. The past two Mondays have been spent at the Learning Things warehouse to look at curriculum. It was really overwhelming the 1st trip. So much to look at and not knowing where to start. Upon advise of two other homeschooling moms in our adoption group I had a good idea of some programs I wanted to check out. The past Monday we went in with our list to look at the choices we made and to look at what we decided on, it all changed when we looked at some of the choices first hand. Here's what we decided on~
Sonlight Horizons Math
Sonlight Horizons History (very multicultural study for K)
Sing Spell Read and Write
Christian Liberty Press for Bible and Science mixed with some Abeka
We are now waiting on what we ordered to arrive here at the house. I was able to buy some stuff from a used curriculum site which most of the stuff is brand new or in new condition. The rest we ordered new from Learning Things. The SSWR program was to expensive (IMO) to buy new over 300.00 on some sites so I finally found a complete set on Craigslist in Texas for 50.00 with an extra set of books that comes with it. We should be geared up by the end of next week to start school and I can't wait. Until then we have been doing lots of reading, art and puzzles. We are lucky to have a library 5 minutes away from us for extra books.
